General Information
What and where are the Higher Education centers?
The ODU Higher Education centers are satellite campuses of ODU. They are located in Hampton, Portsmouth, Virginia Beach, and Northern Virginia (Sterling).
What are Virtual Classroom courses?
The Virtual Classrooms are located on the Norfolk campus, in Virginia Beach, Newport News, and Sterling, VA. The courses are taught to all 4 sites at the same time and are usually broadcast from the main campus in a 2-way audio/video environment.
What is the MBAA?
The MBAA is the MBA student association. They have seminars, social events and networking events throughout the year. The dues are $30.00 for life. The MBA Program Office has applications available.
Where is the MBA student lounge?
MBA students may use the lounge from 8am-7pm Monday though Thursday and 8am-5pm on Friday in Room 1029 Constant Hall.

Transferring / Deferring
If I am admitted to another graduate program and then change my mind, can I automatically transfer into the MBA?
No, each Master's degree program at ODU is a separate entity with separate admission criteria.
How do I change the program I am applying for (or have been admitted to)?
Please write to Graduate Admissions, Old Dominion University , MBA Program Office, Norfolk , VA 23529 to request a program change/transfer. Also, you will need to submit any additional required credentials for the new Program.
I've applied for a specific semester to enroll, but now I need to delay my entry semester. How do I do request this?
Yes, you can defer your entry term up to a year. Please write to the MBA Program Office, 1026 Constant Hall, Norfolk , VA 23529 or email mbainfo@odu.edu. Ask to defer your application to the appropriate semester.
What type of career guidance can the MBA Program offer me?
We work very closely with the Career Management Center. The Old Dominion University Career Management Center provides a full range of services to MBA students, including assistance with resume and cover letter preparation, seminars related to job search topics, internship and full-time job postings, and individual career consultations.
I am interested in an internship; who do I contact?
Contact Penny Craig-Pickel in the Career Management Center. Her office is located in 1011 Constant Hall, or she may be reached at 757-683-5777. She can provide you with the appropriate forms.
How are internships graded?
Internships are graded on a Pass/Fail basis. A project paper and job performance evaluation determine the grade.
Computer Information
Are computer labs available for student use?
Constant Hall contains a computer lab in Room 1023 solely for business students. Please check the posted schedule for days and times of operation. There are also labs in Kaufman Hall, The Library and the Webb Education Building .
Is an e-mail account required? Is Computer ownership required?
Yes, MBA students are required to check their ODU email account on a regular basis and to sign up for the MBA list-serve. Course schedule changes, schedules and various other important information is sent out to the list. No, resources are available on campus.
Tuition & Financial Aid
What is the cost of ODU's MBA Program?
The cost cannot be determined until your tuition status is determined. Tuition rates are stated on the Tuition page.
Who determines in-state vs. out-of-state tuition rates?
The Office of the Registrar determines your tuition rate. For any questions regarding your status or qualifications, please call 757-683-4425 or visit the Registrars homepage.
What types of financial aid are offered for MBA students?
We offer a limited number of assistantships. There is also the possibility of paid internships. Other forms of aid are offered through the Office of Financial Aid.
How do I apply for an assistantship?
Fill out the "Application for Institutional Graduate Financial Assistance" found in the Graduate Application or in the MBA Program Office. Turn this form into the MBA Program Manager with a copy of your resume.
Do I have to go through the interview process for an assistantship?
Not all assistantships require an interview. If an interview is required, the supervising department or instructor will notify you.
Grade Information
What is the difference between dropping and withdrawing from a course?
You may drop a course prior to the drop/add deadline. A dropped course will not appear on your transcript. A withdrawal will show up on your transcript. You can withdraw from a class until approximately half-way through the semester.
Does withdrawal hurt my GPA?
No, a withdrawal does not hurt your GPA. It will show up on your transcript.
I have a problem with a grade. Who do I call get to get it fixed?
Please contact your instructor.
Can you give me my grades over the phone?
For privacy reasons, we cannot give grade information via telephone. You may obtain your grades through LeoOnline.
Graduation / Alumni Information
Where do I get an application for Graduation?
In the MBA Program Office, the Registrar's Office in Rollins Hall or online.
I've applied for graduation. Now what happens?
Your application will be forwarded to the MBA Program office. From there, we will fill it out and send it back to the Registrar's office. We will send you information regarding completion of your form and a few forms we would like you to fill out and return to us. Student Services will send you more information about the Commencement ceremony.
Can I stay active in the MBAA as an alumni?
Yes, you can still come to events and even help out other students by finding possible internships or helping them to network. Also, an email list serve has been established just for MBA Alumni. Job postings and social events sponsored by the MBAA or MBA program Office will be sent to this list. Register for the list serve.
Leo Information
I see information on something called LEO, what is it and can I register using it?
LEO is a phone/web based student information system. A student can pay for tuition, get grade information and register for classes using this system.
Can I pay my bill with LEO?
Yes, you can pay your bill and find out your account balance.
Military Students
Can the MBA Program Office send in or answer questions about my VA or GI Bill paperwork for me?
No, we can't. Please contact the Office of Military Student Services at 757-683-4756.
I'm active duty military. Am I considered in-state or out-of-state?
If you are getting Tuition Assistance for even 1 credit hour, all of your courses are calculated at the in-state rate. Please talk to your command or ESO more about tuition assistance. If you are not getting tuition assistance, the one year waiting period for Virginia residency is waived.
I'm a military dependent. Am I considered in-state or out-of-state?
Your tuition rate is determined by a Domicile Assessment form that is a part of the application. The Registrar's Office evaluates your form and makes a determination. For questions regarding your rate, call 757-683-3624.
Registration / Course Information
Do I have to see the advisor, Shanna A.Wood, to register?
No, you can be advised by phone, e-mail, fax or mail. You do have to notify Ms. Wood of your intended courses. Your advisor block will not be removed without notification of intended courses.
Do students get registration information mailed to them each semester?
No, a message is sent via email on the MBA list serve every semester after the next semester's schedule is in posted to the website.
How will I know the deadlines for drop/add, and withdrawal are?
These dates are on the ODU web site and in the ODU Schedule of Classes. Also, the MBA Program List Serve will send out messages about upcoming deadlines and events.
Who do I call for a problem with my tuition bill?
Please call the Cashier's office at 683-3302.
